I just got a call which was an automated, computer generated voice claiming to be a collection agency looking for my spouse. The number which the caller ID showed was 971-394-9941 Oregon. They mispronounced our last name extremely badly which is a technique called 'mumbling' used by scammers to catch a person off guard. It said to call Karen Miller at 833-486-0392. I immediately hung up and did not call the 0392 number. My spouse has no unpaid credit and neither do I. Because, at first, I could find very little to no information on the 971-394-9941 number on the internet, I set my phone to hide my number and called back on the number which showed on the caller ID. Probably spoofing using VOIP. The call was disconnected before even trying to ring. This happened 3 times in a row. Yet another red flag. After more research on the 9941 number, I ran into some extremely negative information on this “Karen Miller” and the 0392 number. Learn about spoofing here: https://www.fcc.gov/spoofing Now, my spouse, along with me and millions of others in recent years have been compromised by several companies being hacked and breached. One of those companies was a medical records third party that was trusted with our personal info by an insurance company and our hospital. I suspect that this was a ‘vishing’ attempt using info from that breach. That’s the only way they could tie my phone number to my spouse.
