Facebook was being accessed online when a pop-up error screen purporting to be from Microsoft Support Tech popped up on our computer. A recording claimed that our computer had been locked due to an issue and to call 805-243-0059 for assistance, and to not try to unlock or restart computer. We did not call that number. We closed out of programs we were in via Task Manager and restarted computer and ran scan to ensure all was well. This first happened around March 2nd and we were able to log out, scan, and restart computer. As a precaution, we spent valuable work time changing all passwords, as we work our small home business from home. This issue first happened around March 2nd, then again today March 7th. We reported this scam to Microsoft and the FTC. We attempted to contact law enforcement in Santa Barbara and Ventura, CA, cities within the 805 area code. Ventura County Sherriff's Dept. told us there was nothing they could do, but appreciated the information.
Great & Thank You!
